Greek-Inspired Lamb Burgers with Herb-Feta Yogurt Sauce

A Greek-inspired lamb burger featuring fragrant oregano and cumin, topped with a cooling feta-yogurt sauce brightened with dill and lemon. The patties develop a golden crust while remaining juicy inside.

Ingredients

Serves 2

  • 250g lean ground lamb
  • 75g non-fat Greek yogurt
  • 30g reduced-fat feta cheese
  • 1 small cucumber, diced
  • 1 medium tomato, sliced
  • 30g red onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 whole wheat burger buns
  • 10ml extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Method

  1. Step 1: Combine ground lamb, 1 minced garlic clove, oregano, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Mix gently with hands until just combined—overmixing creates tough burgers. Divide into 2 equal portions and shape into 1-inch thick patties.

  2. Step 2: For the sauce, whisk Greek yogurt, crumbled feta, remaining garlic, dill, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt until smooth. The feta should be evenly distributed, creating a creamy sauce with visible herb flecks.

  3. Step 3: Heat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Add olive oil and swirl to coat. Place patties and cook for 4-5 minutes per side until internal temperature reaches 70°C (158°F) and a deep golden-brown crust forms. Listen for the sizzle—constant sound means good browning.

  4. Step 4: While patties rest for 2 minutes, toast the buns cut-side down in the same pan for 30 seconds until lightly golden.

  5. Step 5: Assemble burgers: spread feta-yogurt sauce on both bun halves, add cucumber and tomato slices, place the lamb patty, and top with red onion rings. Serve immediately.
